Over the past several decades, applications permeated by advances in digital signal processing have undergone unprecedented growth in capabilities. The editors and authors of High Performance Embedded Computing Handbook: A Systems Perspective have been significant contributors to this field, and the principles and techniques presented in the handbook are reinforced by examples drawn from their work.

The chapters cover system components found in today’s HPEC systems by addressing design trade-offs, implementation options, and techniques of the trade, then solidifying the concepts with specific HPEC system examples. This approach provides a more valuable learning tool, Because readers learn about these subject areas through factual implementation cases drawn from the contributing authors’ own experiences.

Discussions include:

  • Key subsystems and components
  • Computational characteristics of high performance embedded algorithms and applications
  • Front-end real-time processor technologies such as analog-to-digital conversion, application-specific integrated circuits, field programmable gate arrays, and intellectual property–based design
  • Programmable HPEC systems technology, including interconnection fabrics, parallel and distributed processing, performance metrics and software architecture, and automatic code parallelization and optimization
  • Examples of complex HPEC systems representative of actual prototype developments
  • Application examples, including radar, communications, electro-optical, and sonar applications

The handbook is organized around a canonical framework that helps readers navigate through the chapters, and it concludes with a discussion of future trends in HPEC systems. The material is covered at a level suitable for practicing engineers and HPEC computational practitioners and is easily adaptable to their own implementation requirements.

  1. Fantastic – Kindle ED flawed. The book itself is fantastic. Has many interesting designs and works to dispel lingering myths about Audio Devices. I have -0- complaints about the book itself. Do yourself a huge favor and buy a physical copy for your workbench.OTOH: The Kindle Edition sucks big time. About 50% of the schematics are unreadable! You cannot zoom in or see the various components at a useful detail level to determine values or part numbers, making the whole book (on kindle) useless for constructing the projects within. I have excellent vision, and my computers (3 Macs, 4 PCs) are equipped with excellent Monitors, but none of them (nor my phone or kindle) displays these troubled schematics adequately. This is flat ridiculous… I am running the latest Kindle software on both my PCs and Macs. It is offensive to me that Amazon will not add this critical and easily coded function into the software. They may think it’s clever to leave it out so people will buy a physical Kindle (which CAN zoom), but its going to cost them in the end, I am already buying more books second-hand and will be avoiding ANY and ALL kindle books in the future until the Zoom functions are added to the Mac and PC versions of the software. As a result of my warnings and comments 5 other people will not be buying kindle books or devices until this is corrected, if at all. 3 of them are constantly buying books and technology… figure it out Amazon.Update about Kindle Zoom: 03/06/2011 – I upgraded my copy of Kindle for Android (For my Droid Mk. 1) and now I can zoom in on my PHONE… Still NO change on the zoom on PC or Mac, despite 2 software updates since.

  2. Good to self studying. A good text material for electrical enegineering students studying. Information on simulink models of the electric drives is clearly given for readers.

  3. Filled with good designs, interesting to read. Not for the newbie to electronics, but very detailed and interesting to read. The author apparently replies to emails to him (I have not sent him any) based on previous reviews. The designs are included and give me confidence to build my own amplifier. I’ve owned a Bose 321 system, and after that crapped out, I swore I would go the DIY-route. This book is the result of searching for a design book that is not a textbook for college (zzzzzzzz). The beginning of the book is the best description of why some of us are audiophiles, couldn’t have said it better!

  4. Topics are treated exhaustively and rigorously (with their mathematical complexity), the reference to the simulation examples are effective but I would have expected to have access (with some kind of license) to sw to develop the algorithms presented from real applications

  5. Great book for newbies. Although this book took a quite circuitous route to get here (Colorado Springs/Utah/Nevada/back to Colorado Springs) I have already dabbled with a couple of the projects and found them well thought out and presented. I would, however, avoid the Kindle version simply because the schematics are too small to read.

  6. It’s a book full of detail’s so it is difficult to review such a comprehensive work after only a few weeks. But it is a must read if you seriously want to study loudspeaker design. The way difficult topics are explained is unique and the author has a lot of experience.

  7. What a mountain of information about loudspeakers. It explains in great detail what you need to know.It does get abit too technical in parts that if you do not have an electronics background.

  8. Excellent read. Not for the casual hobbyist. This is an intensive, detailed text. At this price though, a hard bound version would be expected.

  9. This book is well written and full of excellent information. This book is well written and full of excellent information. Even if you decide to not build any of the electronics circuits detailed in the book, the information detailed in the book will be very useful to anyone who wants to understand the details of working with audio and audio equipment.

  10. Not useful unless you are a subjectivist. At first, there appears to be a wealth of technical information, as there are lots of graphs and some equations and design factors. However, in the end, this turns out to be more of a sop to the golden ear camp of audio, and is not very useful for the engineering oriented practitioner. I had hoped for more useful information not found in other, less comprehensive books.

  11. Regalo. Es muy buen libro fue un regalo para mi hermano y le gusto mucho.
